ODPS Ohio Emergency Management Agency Statewide Severe Weather - 29 June 2012

Statewide Severe Weather - 29 June 2012

A line of fast-moving, severe thunderstorms with powerful winds swept across the state from west to east late in the afternoon of Friday, June 29, 2012, leaving widespread damage, downed utility poles and electrical wires, and hundreds of thousands without power. National Weather Service reported winds up to 80 miles per hour during the height of the storm system.
Extreme heat combined with prolonged power outages has created a great concern for Ohio’s residents, especially our elderly and medically fragile populations.
The State Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor conditions, and coordinate statewide response, working with state, local and federal partners.

Call to Action: Check on Your Neighbor Campaign

Ohioans are in this heat wave together! With record-breaking temperatures and thousands without power, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (OEMA) in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), are asking each and every person to take action, get in touch with friends, family and loved ones, and help spread the word about how to stay safe during this ongoing heat.

With power outages and a looming forecast predicting temperatures well into the 90's, reach out and make sure those around you – neighbors, family, church members or customers in your business – have the tools they need to stay healthy and be safe.
